Mentoring Girls and Young Women

Mentoring young women and girls in schools and universities is a core focus of the Nyapachuma Memorial Foundation. Through guidance, support, and empowerment initiatives, the foundation seeks to equip young women with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to navigate academic, social, and professional challenges.

A key campaign under this mentorship programme is the Anti-Sextortion Campaign, which addresses the growing concern of sextortion—an exploitative practice where individuals are coerced into giving money or sexual favors under threat of exposing evidence of their sexual activity. Sextortion not only undermines the dignity and safety of young people, but it also negatively impacts their education, mental health, and future opportunities.

The Anti-Sextortion Programme was officially launched on 6th April 2024 at the Kenneth Kaunda Wing of the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka. The event brought together over 300 participants, including students from universities across the country, as well as educators, policymakers, and civil society representatives. The launch served as both an awareness-raising platform and a call to action, highlighting the urgent need to protect students from sexual exploitation and abuse.

Through mentorship, education, and advocacy, the Nyapachuma Memorial Foundation aims to empower young women and girls to recognize and resist coercion, report incidents safely, and pursue their education and careers without fear. By fostering safe, supportive environments within schools and universities, the foundation contributes to a broader effort to uphold the rights, dignity, and safety of young women throughout Zambia.
